Digital Dash BACK TO GRUMBLE INDEX BACK TO MARTYN'S LITTLE LAND ROVER AND 101FC SITE |
I've been playing with this idea for ages now, so thought it would be a good idea to get something down on screen...
The components so far include:
There's a small video clip (8MB or so) of it working here. The OS is a very cut down version of Fedora Core 4 Linux, running VMware which in turn runs Windoze 2000 in a virtual machine environment (need Doze for the SatNav prog). There's also a reversing camera which automatically switches on when reverse is selected on the autobox - this then 'flips' the display to give a mirror image. Obviously it'll work as an MP3 player - and for this there's two 80GB 2.5" hard drives plus USB and WiFi for connecting to the home or office LAN to pull more files over, but all of this is 'dressing'. The idea for having a digital dash is mainly to give me information - such as various temps, fuel consumption and the like. For this I'm working on blowing a seperate EPROM which sort of mirrors a Range Rover ECU in terms of monitoring. This will probably end up connecting via a serial intergace (unless I can find a USB interface module - which would be kind of neat). The system will also control the air suspension when fitted, and by using a solid state giro - will self level the truck on uneven sites. More to follow... :-) |
